An overview on finite element-modelling techniques for structural capacity assessment of corroded reinforced concrete structures

چکیده

About 80% of the observed damage in existing reinforced concrete structures is related to corrosion. Typical corrosion-associated phenomena that affect structural capacity concern: (i) cross-section and ductility reduction steel, (ii) cracking, (iii) area due spalling (iv) modification bond properties. A number models have been presented recent years addressing these issues. The paper presents a critical review such their application analysis corroded members using nonlinear finite element analysis. accuracy different modelling approaches assessed through comparison with experimental results on beams subjected monotonic cyclic loading. Specimens showing failure modes were selected, as flexure, combined flexure-shear failure. Sensitivity studies are performed order gain better understanding contribution each degradation phenomenon. Finally, recommendations given for reliable assessment affected by

Finite Element Analysis of Bond for Reinforced Concrete Structures

A high-resolution finite element model is developed using the MSC.Marc software package to investigate local bond behavior and the modeling of this behavior. In the model, interaction between concrete and steel is treated geometrically as contact between two separate bodies. Concrete is modeled as a homogenous material. A multiple, fixed, smeared crack model is used to simulate response in tens...

Flexural Strengthening of Deficient Reinforced Concrete Beams with Post-Tensioned Carbon Composites using Finite Element Modelling

The application of external post-tensioned steel bars as an effective way to strengthen an existing bridge has been so far used in many different countries. In recent decades, however, they have been replaced by bars made from Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP), as a material with high tensile strength and corrosion resistance, to address several concerns with steel bars such as their appli...

Modelling the loss of steel-concrete bonds in corroded reinforced concrete beams

The existing stochastic models for deterioration of reinforced concrete structures is extended by adding modelling of “loss of bond” due to corrosion between the reinforcement bars and the surrounding concrete.

Appropriate Loading Techniques in Finite Element Analysis of Underground Structures

Stability of underground structures is assessed by comparing rock strength with induced stresses resulted from ground stresses. Rock mass surrounding the opening may fail either by fracture or excessive deformation caused. Accurate calculation of induced stresses is therefore fundamental in the stability analysis of an opening. Although numerical methods, particularly finite element method, are...
